What is Nutritional Therapy?
A common question as this practice becomes more popular. Check out my Nutritional Therapy page.
Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows us to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health.
Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
How successful will Nutritional Therapy or Health Coaching be for me?
The degree of benefit obtainable from advice or programmes I may offer varies between clients with similar health problems and following similar advice. However, I consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Nutritional advice will be tailored to support health conditions and/or health concerns identified and agreed between both parties.
Should I tell my doctor or medical professional I'm working with you?
Yes. I frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in your care to explain any recommendations that I've provided.
I never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional.
What should I tell my doctor?
You are responsible for contacting your doctor about any health concerns.
If you are receiving treatment from a doctor, or any other medical provider, you should tell him/her about any nutritional strategy we have agreed. This is necessary because of any possible reaction between medication and the nutritional programme.
Can I come to you for treatment for a specific health condition instead of my doctor?
I would love to work with you to help you improve your general health which in turn may have positive impacts on various symptoms, but as a Nutritional Therapist I am not permitted to diagnose, or claim to treat, medical conditions.
Nutritional advice is not a substitute for professional medical advice and/or treatment.
Why do you need to know about other medical treatment I'm receiving?
It is important that you tell me about any medical diagnosis, medication, herbal medicine, or food supplements you are taking as this may affect the recommendations I make for you or can be contraindicated with some of the supplements we have agreed.
Do you have insurance?
As a Holistic Practitioner I am insured for the practice of Nutritional Therapy also incorporating ancient methods including the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) five elements theory and other naturopathic techniques. I wholeheartedly believe in the Naturopathic Principles and use these in practice.
These systems assist me with providing you with tailored advice to support health conditions and/or health concerns identified and agreed between both parties.
I will make it clear if I intend to step outside this boundary.
What additional costs should I consider?
The fees listed on my Services page are for the consultations only. Whilst I will always use naturopathic techniques that are freely available in the first instance, I may recommend food supplements and/or functional testing. I usually receive a commission for these, but they are optional and will be discussed with you during your consultation.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment with you?
At least 24 hours notice must be given for Cancellations. Cancellations within 24 hours or non-attendance are charged at 50% of the consultation rate.
I appreciate that you will likely have dependents whose circumstances you can't always control, as do I, so please let me know if you are unable to make your appointment and we will agree next steps.
What should I do if I have further questions about your recommendations, or I want to change my programme?
If you're ever not sure about the programme, food supplement doses or time periods we have agreed please contact me as soon as possible for clarification.
If you want to continue taking supplements I have recommended for longer than the original agreed period, please check with me first to avoid any potential adverse reactions.
What information about me do you record and hold?
Please note that recording consultations using any form of electronic media is not allowed without the written permission of both you and I.
